Birmingham Assay Office Academy, is located in the heart of the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, continues a legacy dating back to 1773. Originally established with a vital role in assaying and hallmarking precious metals to safeguard consumers and uphold industry standards, the Assay Office has evolved significantly since amendments to its Act in 1995. This evolution has allowed us to expand beyond hallmarking into various sectors of the jewellery and precious metals industry.

 

The establishment of the Academy was driven by a clear industry need for specialised, up-to-date training provided by seasoned professionals. In 2015, alongside our move to purpose-built premises, we introduced a state-of-the-art training facility. Drawing upon over 250 years of expertise, our Academy is committed to educating and training professionals across the Jewellery, Watch, and Precious Metal Industries.

 

Our courses are meticulously crafted to be commercially relevant and practical, catering to a spectrum of proficiency levels—from introductory to advanced—for roles spanning retail, sales, technical expertise, compliance, and quality control.
